Let's talk about.... Water
If I had to pick between water and juice, I would have always chosen juice. I loved passionfruit, apple, grape....the list goes on, don't get me started. Until I completely committed to the paleo lifestyle, I was a juice addict, I will admit it. It was so bad, I would have poured a glass without finishing it all, forget about it, and pour another! My obsessive juice cups are no longer scattered around my house, but my fruit infused water is. That's like natural juice, right?
My favorite infused water is simple-- lemon and cucumber. Refreshing, a little sweet and reminds me of that past-life juice obsession without trigging a relapse.
In addition to infusing my water with fruit, I have stopped drinking with meals. When you drink while your body is attempting to digest your food, it can dilute the naturally produced stomach acid. And in turn, your body isn't able to digest the food as effectively. Your saliva actually produces what you need already to begin the digestion process. Of course, drinking small amounts of liquids with meals will not harm you, but try watching your food-to-drink intake and see how differently it makes you feel.
I do not drink coffee, so my personal goal throughout the day is to focus on my water intake. Although it varies person to person, I find that drinking 5 of my approximately 16 oz water bottle suits me well. It helps to put a reminder on my computer at work with the number 5, so I can keep myself in check!
